It's common practice for trailers to feature scenes that might not end up in the final movie and while most of us accept this without much drama, one man in New Zealand has refused to play nice,
After seeing the trailer for Tom Cruise thriller Jack Reacher, he decided that one particular shot of an explosion was his sole reason for then buying a ticket months later.
But after watching the potboiler, he was dismayed to discover that said shot was nowhere to be seen. He then made a complaint to New Zealand's Advertising Standards Authority. In his letter of complaint, he wrote: "The explosion where the whole cliff comes down was the defining part of the ad that made me really want to go see the movie … aside from having Tom Cruise in it."
After hearing of the complaint, Paramount has decided to refund his ticket. "Despite our best intentions, it is always possible that certain scenes appearing in an advertisement or trailer may not appear in the final version of a film," the studio told the ASA. "The explosion in question was a single split-second element omitted from a 130-minute long action film."
New Zealand's Commercial Approvals Bureau rejected the complaint as the omission posed "no threat of confusion to the large majority of TV viewers".
We're guessing it's this shot below. Good huh?
