This ball boy's reaction to Bristol City scoring against Man Utd is what we all need right now
This is so pure
Sometimes, amongst all the arguments about diving, VAR, false nines, gegenpressing, sad David Moyes, Big Sam’s pints of wine and dodgy meetings and ANNOUNCE POGBAs, it’s easy to forget why football is the greatest game on earth.
And then you see a moment like this and you remember why you first fell in love with it.
It’s a Tuesday night, it’s the quarter-final of the League Cup, you’re the ballboy for your beloved Bristol City, and they’re playing the mighty Manchester United. Sensationally, they go one nil up, before Zlatan Ibrahimovic, one of the icons of the modern game, equalises. The final whistle is approaching, with extra time and penalties looming, and your team showing signs of tiredness.
And then.
Midfielder Korey Smith turns… and shoots… and… it’s in.
What do you feel in that second? Elation like nothing else. So what do you do? You run to manager Lee Johnson, and you go mad.
Good on you son. Good on you.
The celebration called to mind a similar event back in 2015, when a Wycombe Wanderers ball boy could not hold back from celebrating an Aaron Pierre header for his favourite team.
And while we’re here, a little round of applause for Bristol City’s goal announcement tweets: they’re always worth looking out for, and as we enter the festive season, they’ve kept their game high.
Well done everyone.
