Crowds sing 'Don't Look Back in Anger' at the end of minute's silence in Manchester
The Oasis classic got an airing in honour of the bombing victims
The minute’s silence this morning, held to remember the victims of Monday’s bomb attack in Manchester, was an emotional affair, with people across the length and breadth of the country stopping their activities to pay their respects.
And in St Ann’s Square in Manchester, where hundreds of people had gathered, the moment took on added poignance when crowds began singing the Oasis classic ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ upon the conclusion of the minute’s silence.
The singing was started by Lydia Bernsmeier-Rullow, who took on the first few lines on her own, before others joined in for the chorus.
She told the Guardian: “It really touched my heart and gave me shivers to hear everyone joining in with me. I love Manchester and Oasis is part of my childhood. ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ – that’s what this is about: we can’t be looking backwards to what happened, we have to look forwards to the future. We all joined together and we’re all going to get on with it because that’s what Manchester does.”
At the end of the singing, people applauded.
