Marion Cotillard keeping French accent for Macbeth
Marion Cotillard keeping French accent for Macbeth
Creating a new version of Macbeth is an unenviable task. We all know the story so well so the trick is to try something different without ruining the fantastic source material.
We were already sold on the idea of this upcoming adaptation after Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard joined the cast. Not to mention the fact that Snowtown director Justin Kurzel is also on board.
But in a recent chat with Interview magazine, Cotillard let slip that she's keeping her French accent to play the devilish part of Lady Macbeth, despite the film retaining the original setting and dialogue.
"They want to keep a flavour of my French accent," she explained. "[Kurzel] thought it was interesting to have, like, an exotic flavour to the accent. So I asked, "Do you really think it's interesting? Or do you think I will never be able to totally erase my French accent and be totally Scottish?" And he said, "No, no, no, we really think it's interesting."
So there you have it. Madame Macbeth might actually be a thing. Thoughts?
