His dad is a lot more excited than he is
Mark Zuckerberg’s plan to convince the world he is a regular human being just like everyone else continues. The Facebook founder, who gets roughly $9 billion richer every year off the back of your desperation to show the world your baby’s every gurn, has just posted a video of himself from way back in 2002, when as a 17-year-old kid he discovered he was getting into Harvard.
It’s one of the most elite, most famous universities in the world – but his reaction to the news is not, shall we say, unbridled with joy. In fact, Zuckerberg, who would go on to drop out of the university two years later in order to run Facebook full-time and, eventually, take over the known world, emits the most neutral-sounding “yay” in history. You’ve never seen someone so underwhelmed by potentially life-changing news.
His dad, who filmed the video, is sweetly delighted for his ingrate son, who eventually manages a small fist pump for the benefit of the camera.
Zuckerberg is actually due to receive an honorary degree from Harvard next week, which just goes to show all you university drop-outs that you too can pick your degree up again later if you have $60 billion or so.
On his profile, he also made an attempt at something resembling a joke: “Before I went to college, my mom bet me I'd drop out and my younger sister bet me she'd finish college before me. I bet them I'd get a degree. Now I suppose the cycle is complete.”
Zuckerberg has been in the news more than usual lately, as he attempts to build up his profile ahead of what some world-weary analysts are predicting will be a run for US president in 2020.
