If in a quiet moment of idle contemplation you’ve ever looked up the word rock’n’roll in a dictionary, you’ll know that the definition consists merely of three words. In short, the Marshall Stack.
Every guitarist worth his gold encrusted plectrum has plugged his Fender Strat into Jim Marshall’s famous amplifiers. Just look at this roll call: Pete Townshend, Steve Marriott, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Graham Coxon, Paul Weller, Slash… we could go on. We won’t.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the first Marshall amp, Marshall Headphones and Marshall Amplification have created a speaker for home use. The Marshall Hanwell (so called because of the location of Jim Marshall’s shop in London) not only resembles the iconic Marshall speakers, right down to the fret cloth and gold logo, it has a distinctive sharp sound thanks to its dual long-throw woofers and hi-fi tweeters.
So, for those about to rock, we salute you.
It will be available to buy later in the year.
