Thanks to our general confusion over how planes stay in the air and too many viewings of Final Destination, we tend to assume that a plane crash is a no-live situation. But, surprisingly, the numbers are actually in our favour.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, there was a 95.7% overall survival rate in all the commercial airline accidents between 1983 and 2000.
If you're still a tad suspicious of this fact then these stunning pictures from German photographer Dietmar Eckell should help to convince. He visited 15 crash sites where miraculously, all passengers survived, and took some incredible shots of the planes that still remain.
It was all part of an Indiegogo project to raise money for Eckell to self-publish a photo-book and he's already raised more than twice of what he initially suggested he would need.
