Cinemas will be hoping that this lives up its name: the Monopoly movie is coming soon.
Collider recently interviewed producer Randall Emmett, who gave new details about the film, based on the classic board game by Hasbro.
It's been in development for a while, with Ridley Scott briefly interested in directing, but it will finally start shooting this summer. A director and cast announcement is due at the beginning of February, and Emmett was happy to reveal other likely ingredients.
“[For] the director, we’re on a shortlist of a few names, and we’re beyond excited about whichever of these directors ends up coming together. The cast is young kids but there is one lead, older - a guy chasing kids, lets say.”
When it was suggested that the film could be similar to The Goonies, he replied “That’s a perfect analogy to what Monopoly will hopefully be. There is a treasure map…it’s a family adventure film.”
He added that he hoped - in a manner similar The LEGO Movie - that it wouldn't simply be a kids film, saying, “we really spent a lot of time on the script really trying to create family fun for everybody.”
Filming will take place in Georgia or Louisiana, with exterior work to be done in Atlantic City at the boardwalk.
The two big questions are: who will play Mr. Monopoly; and which lucky canine will play the dog?
