Most expensive Rolex Submariner ever sold at auction is admittedly very nice

If you were to say to me: “Hey, would you like this really beautiful watch, this white gold Rolex Submariner prototype, which recently became the most expensive watch of its kind sold at auction?” I’d be like, yeah, go on then. 

The Rolex Submariner has been widely regarded as a classic since its debut way back in 1953, with subsequent models changing very little in the proceeding 67 years a testament to its timelessness. This version sold at Christie’s “A Rolex Afternoon” in Geneva for $628,572 (£487,416) this week, which made it the most expensive Submarine ever sold publicly. That’s a whole lotta chase, gotta say. 

Hypebeast wrote: “The prototype is from the early 1970s and is one of three samples known to exist. Although the watch doesn’t have a serial number, the unique look is confirmed to be genuine and produced by Rolex’s factory. The watch features a white gold case with a dive bezel with knurling on two opposing sections and an interesting bark finish.”
