'Rapture' is the next big Netflix documentary everyone's going to be talking about
This new doc should be on your must-watch list
“I love a good Netflix documentary” - Everyone.
It’s sort of the thing you don’t even need to say, isn’t it? A good feature-length doc on that old Netflix, there? Yep, think I’ll be watching that. So, taking this as gospel, I can be quietly confident that you’ll be interested in the latest factual series hitting the streaming platform.
Up next is Rapture, an eight-episode doc looking into hip-hop music and culture, set to premiere on 30 March. The show, produced by New York culture brand Mass Appeal, will focus on different hip-hop artists, including Nas, Logic, G-Eazy, 2 Chainz and Just Blaze, looking at “the artists’ lives with their families and friends, to sitting front row in the studio and grinding on tour, to experiencing the ecstatic power of moving the crowd”.
Director Sacha Jenkins says: “Way back, when hip-hop culture was in its gestational phase, the powerful message therein didn’t go much further than the five boroughs of New York City. Today, rap music is the heartbeat of Mother Earth, and Netflix is the embodiment of the eyes from which she sees.
“It is a great honour for Mass Appeal to work with Netflix to produce our new series Rapture. We’ve been telling hip-hop stories since ’96, and as natives we feel it is our duty to do the movement justice. Rapture is bangin’. Straight up.”
The show’s just around the corner, but until then, here’s the trailer:
