Netflix are bring a load of Roald Dahl's books to the small screen
The Roald Dahl Cinematic Universe anyone?
Roald Dahl, eh? Wrote a heck of a lot of a good stories, didn’t he? The BFG, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, The Twits - all absolute classic, if you ask us. And although he was a bit of a rotter in real life, his stories have endured the test of time - you’re still allowed to like them.
Which is why Netflix have decided to pick a load of them up and make a load of specials based on his books, including but not limited to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, The Twits, Matilda and The BFG.
Felicity Dahl, Dahl’s widow, said in a statement:
“Our mission, which is purposefully lofty, is for as many children as possible around the world to experience the unique magic and positive message of Roald Dahl’s stories.
“This partnership with Netflix marks a significant move toward making that possible and is an incredibly exciting new chapter for the Roald Dahl Story Company. Roald would, I know, be thrilled.”
Melissa Cobb, Netflix’s VP of Kids and Family Content, added:
“We have great creative ambition to reimagine the journeys of so many treasured Dahl characters in fresh, contemporary ways with the highest quality animation and production values.”
It’s all set to gear up and go into production next year, so there’s no concrete release date yet, but Netflix seem to move pretty fast, so it won’t be long before we see something. At the moment, the plan is for animated series and one-off specials, which all sounds very exciting, especially if you delight in stories about child-murder!
