Your new favourite adidas trainers are made from recycled ocean plastic

Think of recycled ocean garbage and you’d be forgiven for thinking of crusty VW camper vans decorated with six-pack beer rings. Well forget all that, as now adidas have mined the seas in the correct way. 

The brand’s UltraBOOST Uncaged – already one of this year's biggest trainers thanks to its high tech primeknit material and lightweight feel, not to mention the absolutely slick limited edition colourways – have now had an overhaul from Parley, a coastal interception and clean-up operations team in the Maldives, to create a style made from recycled ocean plastic.

This beautiful shoe features a Primeknit upper made from a mix of ocean plastic, created from plastic waste retrieved by Parley, with each pair reusing eleven plastic bottles. The shoes laces, heel cap base material, heel webbing, heel lining and the sock-liner cover are also made with recycled materials. Its design is inspired by the ocean waves, to reflect the shoe’s story and adidas and Parley’s commitment to end the cycle of pollution in our oceans.

The specially-developed Primeknit upper is combined with UltraBOOST’s signature elements to deliver an innovative running shoe (although you'll most likely wear it down the pub) that requires no compromise on performance.

As well as the Parley UltraBOOST, adidas has unveiled the first football shirts made from Parley ocean plastic - which will be worn this month by Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

They've also made an informative and arty video that'll make you feel like a right bastard for chucking any plastic bottles in the sea.
