Linear time is a mess these days. Last month feels like last year, and the summer of 2017 might as well have been in the late ‘90s.
Perhaps that’s why the Crash Bandicoot reboot was so successful when it landed last July, with hardcore fans/anyone who wanted to procrastinate from school and university work around the turn of the millennium buying into the N. Sane Trilogy.
You might not remember it as well as you thought (and you can find out for sure with our quiz), but there’s no denying it transported us back to a simpler time. A time when your biggest fear was running into a nitro crate rather than, you know, nuclear war and such.
Well, we’ve got some good news if you want to cling onto your past for a little bit longer: Crash could be coming back again.
The folks at IGN have spotted a ‘could it be? Surely not… well, maybe’ reference in a document entitled Licensing Source Book Europe, from DHX Brands.
And if that sounds more corporate than something you’d normally be interested in reading, we’ve picked out the good bits for you.
Over to Max Arguile of merchandising company GB Eye, who is responsible for the following revelation in the document in question:
“The new game [N. Sane Trilogy] was a huge success retail with no marketing spend,” Arguile says.
“Next year it will be going broader (Switch and PC) and there will be another game in 2019.
“Activision have a five-year plan for this, and GB Eye is delighted to be fully on board for all products.”
You read that right, another game in 2019. While there’s no official word from Activision themselves, that still feels pretty promising.
Vicarious Visions, the developer behind the remastered trilogy, won plaudits from fans for capturing the essence of the original games, so we can’t rule out a separate remaster of a later game in the series.
However, it has been speculated that new game in question could also end up being an entirely original game in the Crash Bandicoot universe, and that makes us very excited.
