You just cannot kill Jason Voorhees. After 25 years, more lives that a small clowder of cats and twelve movies of varying quality*, the man in the hockey mask is to return again on Friday 13th March, 2015.
The series was rebooted in 2009, for a film that was a solid hit at the box office, but a sequel to that failed to emerge, largely due to some shifting in the rights, which are now back in the hands of original studio Paramount.
There are no details currently on what form this 13th film might take. It could be a continuation of the original timeline, which turned so crackers that it even took Jason to space. Or it might be a follow-up to the reboot. Or it might be the first high-profile reboot-reboot. Given it’s the 13th in the series, one would think Paramount will want to make this a big event. The only thing that seems increasingly likely is that Jason is going to outlive us all.
* Yes, you can argue that it’s eleven films since he’s not really in the first one, but let’s not split hairs
