Kendrick Lamar blasts Donald Trump in new song 'The Heart Part 4'
'Y'all got til April the 7th to get y'all shit together'
If Kendrick Lamar’s cryptic Instagram post yesterday morning didn’t entirely break the internet, then it definitely left a dent.
The rapper wiped clean his entire feed and started afresh by uploading the roman numeral “IV” (although that appears to have disappeared now as well), which excited fans thought could be a reference to his next studio album.
As it turns out, the multiple Grammy Award-winner was actually releasing a new song, ‘The Heart Part 4’, which dropped last night. It’s the fourth instalment in a series of ‘The Heart’ songs, arriving nearly 5 years after ‘Part 3’.
It’s a blistering comeback for the self-proclaimed ‘greatest rapper alive’ (around the 1:50 mark), who, among others, takes aim at President Trump:
"Donald Trump is a chump, know how we feel, punk / Tell 'em that God comin' / And Russia need a replay button, y'all up to somethin' / Electorial votes look like memorial votes / But America's truth ain't ignorin' the votes / It's blasphemy, how many gon' blast for me? / I prophesied on my last song, you laughed at me / Oh when the shit get brackin', don't you ask for me / How many leaders gon' tell you the truth after me?"
There’s a mention of Jay Z’s imminent induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, as well as the not-so-subtle hint that a new album – which Lamar called ‘very urgent’ in terms of its content during a recent interview with The New York Times – could be landing very soon: "Y'all got til April the 7th to get y'all shit together".
Initially ‘The Heart Part 4’ was only available to Apple Music subscribers, but as of this morning it’s now on Spotify, too.
