New Sociable Soccer teaser promises heaps of retro footy fun
The Sensi Soccer descendant is looking great
Few things in life can give a thirty-something such instant joy as hearing that music for Sensible Soccer start up. "You're a goalscoring superstar hero..."
But - unless you've been keeping that Amiga quietly running up in the loft for the past twenty years or so - you've probably been unable to experience the addictive thrills of the classic footy game for a long while.
However, in November last year, we reported that a "spiritual successor" to the game was being made by the creator of the original, Jon Hare. Despite mystifyingly reaching only £30,000 of its original Kickstarter goal of £300,000, development on the game has been ploughing ahead, with release due through the 'traditional publishing channels'. So how's it going?
A new gameplay teaser has been revealed which you can watch above, which features the classic music and what looks like pretty much the classic setup, albeit with the graphics slightly updated, though still keeping to its retro, lo-fi feel.
And in terms of gameplay?
Meanwhile, Jon and the team have been taking the game around various European fan events, with feedback looking very positive.
Jon previously commented, "For years I have been planning the spiritual successor to Sensible Soccer. Competing with FIFA and PES requires much more than just a remake, it needs a different take on football games altogether, blending the instant playability of yesteryear with the power of modern technology... A community of approximately 20 million fans worldwide have played the football games I have designed. I'm thrilled to return to the genre and look forward to delivering a football game which once again raises the bar."
It's due for release early in 2017 and will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, iOS and Android - get your zipsticks fired up, follow the team's progress on Twitter and let's all get sociable...
