In the opening seconds of the trailer we learn that our high school protagonist’s life is not easy, that’s he’s made many powerful enemies and that he’s put those he loves in danger. Oh, and he’s haunted by the truth about his parents.
Sounds like some third-rate, pony attempt at a modern-day The Catcher In The Rye, eh? Well, wipe that furrowed brow, my friend, and prepare to rejoice. It’s not. It’s the third – and we’re assuming final – trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man. Which obviously means it’s aces.
And, thankfully, portentous voiceovers aside, it is. Andrew Garfield looks to have given Spidey a new lease of life, and The Lizard looks suitably menacing.
Expect lots of jumping and leaping off tall buildings; lots of anguished screams and forlorn cries of ‘Peter!’ and lots of buildings collapsing, vehicles crashing into each other and, in the middle of it all, a boy-man dressed in a red and blue bodysuit.
Like we said, aces.
The Amazing Spider-Man hits cinemas on July 3.
