New Trailer For Oscar-tipped Drama 'Trash'
26 August 2014

99 times out of 100, describing a film as ‘trash’ would suggest Adam Sandler is shouting behind the scenery somewhere.

Thankfully, this inspiring drama is not only Sandler-free, but it’s hotly tipped as a contender at next year’s Oscars. And from the looks of this trailer, the hype seems to be warranted.

Set in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, it charts the antics of two young trash pickers (newcomers Rickson Tevez and Luis Eduardo) who stumble upon a mysterious wallet which could mean their escape to bigger things. Soon enough the police, who may be corrupt, are soon chasing the rascals down before they can decipher the wallet’s secrets.

Bolstering the cast are Hollywood heavyweights Martin Sheen and Rooney Mara, appearing as the disillusioned priest and his assistant who have travelled to Brazil to work as missionaries. But this isn’t about star power…

Uplifting yet hard-hitting drama displaying similar levels of poverty porn and young scamp tomfoolery to rival Slumdog Millionaire? It’s little wonder people are already clamouring it as one of the ones to watch in the imminent awards season.

Oh and there’s even Weinstein involvement - though we should point out this is young actor Gabriel Weinstein, playing one of the young scamps friends, but it surely can't hurt.
