Newly Discovered Catfish Named After Star Wars' Greedo

As Greedo himself would say,"Ches ko ba tuta creesta crenko ya kolska!". 

For those of you a little rusty in your Huttese, that roughly translates as "I've been looking forward to this for a long time!" - appropriate as the Rodian bounty hunter has just been immortalised in the guise of a newly described species of catfish.

When delving Brazil's Gurupi River in 1998, a team of scientists from Auburn University discovered three previously undescribed species of suckermouth armoured catfish.

One of the catches, with bulging black eyes, underslung mouth and scaly complexion, caught the eye of a fellow biological researcher at the university, who described it as looking like "that guy from Star Wars". 

"After a little prodding, I realised he was talking about Greedo," said lead scientist Dr. Johnathan Armbruster. "We then knew what the name had to be. The Peckoltia greedoi does bear a striking resemblance to Greedo."

Greedo's catfish only recently caught the attention of the wider scientific community after Armbruster's team published its findings in a recent journal publication. The Peckoltia greedoi joins other Star Wars-inspired creatures, including the Yoda purpurata deep sea worm and the Agathidium vaderi 'Darth Vader' beetle.  

As we continue discovering new creatures at the bottom of the ocean, it's only a matter of time before a Jar Jar Binks species starts making headlines.
