size? and Nike drop the exclusive Air Zoom Spiridon just in time for Christmas
An old fave comes back for the holidays
To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, the Nike Air Zoom Spiridon is back with a great size?-exclusive drop in Medium Olive and Velvet Brown. Not colours you’d usually associate with wicked footwear, perhaps, but somehow, with premium materials and an iconic silhouette, they work a dream.
Released in 1997, the original became a cult favourite with collectors: utilising a “Phylon midsole”, a “resilient Duralon forefoot”, and a “podular Zoom Air setup” (I think all that means they were dead comfy), the Spiridon’s upper reflective 3M stripes caused quite a stir; but here, the stripes have been replaced with strips of soft fleece running sleekly along the shoe, dissecting each panel like the diagrams of the world’s most stylish butcher.
The Duralon forefoot (the toeguard bit), too, has been premo’d-up and replaces by luxirous suede, perfect for anxiously scuffing while you wait for your dang Wifi to hurry up so you can finish writing that novel or get another sweet, sweet hit of that hot new Netflix series. You know the one I’m talking about: the one with the… yeah, with the thing. So hot right now. So current.
Anyway, these Spiridons sound like they’re named after a dinosaur (which is cool) and is also, apparently, a planet featured in the Doctor Who serial ‘Planet of the Daleks’ but more than that, they’re a little bit like a beefed-up, slightly-more-serious Air Max 97: in muted shades they’re a little more easily wearable with denim and, who knows, maybe even a nice bit of workwear, and without as many bells and whistles as other, flashier drops, they’re still chocked full of meat-y, suede-y goodness. Perfect for all this LOVELY WEATHER we’re having.
The size?-exclusive Nike Air Zoom Spiridon is available now in Medium Olive and Velvet Brown
