With everyone, including us, getting monstrously over-excited about The Dark Knight Rises, it seemed only natural that some rough would come with the smooth.
After the 8-minute prologue was recently shown and the second teaser trailer just released, fans and critics have been straining to hear what key villain Bane is on about.
See, for those who didn't spend their youth indoors, Bane is a bad guy who gains strength through a drug that he constantly inhales. Which, well, doesn't always lead to the most clear of speech.
Erik Davis, the editor of Movies.com, tweeted that it was "A fantastic action sequence hurt by the fact that you cannot understand the villain at all." While io9wrote that "Bane really does sound that bad."
Apparently, it's a problem internally as well. The Hollywood Reporter claims that Warners have asked Nolan to change the sound mix in order for audiences to understand him better. But allegedly Nolan doesn't want to dumb things down so is only altering things slightly. At the prologue, he claimed that it's fine for audiences not to completely understand, as long as the idea was conveyed correctly.
You can judge things for yourself with some brief Bane dialogue in the trailer below. We think that it's mmfmph mmmm mmph but that's just us.
