North Korea is now warning of a ‘nuclear showdown’ with the US
“We can make the US taste an appalling tragedy it has neither experienced nor even imagined."
After a very promising agreement to talk about denuclearisation on the Korean peninsula, the wheels already look like they’re coming off the peace summit between the US and North Korea.
A senior North Korean official is now saying the proposed meeting might not even happen – and the rogue state is even warning of a potential “nuclear showdown.”
North Korean diplomat Choe Son-hui said: “Whether the US will meet us at a meeting room or encounter us at nuclear-to-nuclear showdown is entirely dependent upon the decision … of the US,” according to The Guardian.
She added: “We will neither beg the US for dialogue nor take the trouble to persuade them if they do not want to sit together with us.
“We can also make the US taste an appalling tragedy it has neither experienced nor even imagined up to now.”
Well that’s pretty fucking chilling, if you ask me.

The main point of contention seems to be that the US is insisting the North agree to denuclearisation before the talks go ahead – something Kim Jong-Un is hesitant to do.
Also causing trouble is US Vice President Mike Pence who has warned that North Korea could go the way of Libya – whose dictatorial leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed in a Western-backed uprising in 2011 – if they don’t agree to a deal.

In an interview on Fox News, Pence said: “This will only end like the Libyan model ended if Kim Jong-un doesn’t make a deal”.
This comment really annoyed the North Korea delegation, obviously.
“As a person involved in the US affairs, I cannot suppress my surprise at such ignorant and stupid remarks gushing out from the mouth of the US vice-president,” Choe said.
Now, I suppose all we can do is hope that this sort of bluster on both sides is a just negotiating tactic. Because when there are nuclear weapons involved, it’s much, much better if people can act like grown-ups.
Trump is supposed to be meeting the North Korean leader at a 12 June summit in Singapore – but let’s see if that actually happens.
