North Korea Threatens War If Seth Rogen comedy Is Released
The forthcoming Seth Rogen film The Interview could be about to cause World War III.
The new Hollywood action-comedy film is due out in October and has just released its teaser trailer. Seth Rogen and James Franco both star, playing a talkshow host and his producer who interview Kim Jong-un before becoming involved in a plot to assassinate him.
Now, a North Korean foreign ministry spokesman said in state media that they would consider the release of the film as an "act of war", promising "merciless" retaliation.
The spokesman was quoted as saying "Making and releasing a movie on a plot to hurt our top-level leadership is the most blatant act of terrorism and war and will absolutely not be tolerated." He added, "If the US administration allows and defends the showing of the film, a merciless counter-measure will be taken."
He described Rogen as a "gangster filmmaker" and said that the movie was provoking "a gust of hatred and rage" among North Korean people.
It is not known if they liked Bad Neighbours, but they didn't threaten war over that one, so presumably it was OK.
