The unexpected voice of the Green Goblin in ‘Spider-Man New Generation’ has been revealed
When footie and film collide
Move over Vinnie Jones – the handsomest man in football is making the leap from the pitch to Hollywood with the announcement that Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud will be the voice of the Green Goblin in a new French-dubbed animated film Spider-Man: New Generation.
The 32-year-old French International joins the lofty ranks of Eric Cantona and David Beckham by making his big-screen debut in the new movie, which comes out in December and will be called Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in English.
The dapper striker revealed his role in the Sony-Marvel project on Twitter, saying: “I am very happy to announce that I will be giving my voice to the Green Goblin in the movie #SpiderManNewGeneration, December 12th at the movies!”
Giroud will be joined on the big screen by France team-mate Presnel Kimpembe, who will voice Scorpion in the film, alongside French actor Stephane Bak and singer Camelia Jordana.
A Sony spokesperson said about the upcoming film: “Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind.
“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.”
Meanwhile, the English version of the comic book movie will be voiced by Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry and – amazingly – Nicholas Cage.
