It is truly a great time to be alive and a Partridge fan right now.
With the second series of Mid Morning Matters currently airing, a new Partridge book on the way and a sequel to Alpha Papa also confirmed to be in the works, (not to mention a third series of The Trip coming) you all thought life couldn't get any sweeter.
But wait: is that another Partridge on the horizon? Why, yes it is!
Steve Coogan has revealed that he has been in talks to produce an actual, real Alan Partridge chat show. Speaking to Alan Carr on his, appropriately enough, Chatty Man show, he said "We might do a real chat show. Alan Partridge: Speaky Man. We might do a real one, with real guests. I don’t know. We are having a think about it."
Musing over how the show would work, he continued, "Thing is we really want to make fun of the guests in a way that is a bit edgy. I interviewed Elton John once and made fun of his propensity of buying huge bouquets of flowers and being a gay ex pothead. He was great. He wore his pink suit to look extra gay for us. It was nice."
Alan, of course, began his broadcasting career as the sports reporter on The Day Today, but his next step was with his highly-successful chat show Knowing Me, Knowing You where highlights included Alan accidentally shooting a chef, sacking his band leader Glen Ponder on air, and then punching a disabled golfer.
As fictional ratings for the show went down, but real life ratings went up, Alan then featured in two series of I'm Alan Partridge, where he dealt with life without a second series of his beloved chat show, before returning to radio in Mid Morning Matters, briefly dealing with an armed siege in Alpha Papa.
Knowing Me, Knowing You, of course featured a host of highly entertaining fictional guests - would a real-life version work as well? Even if it doesn't, he can rest assured that he will be the natural successor to Chris Evans if his new-look Top Gear line up doesn't quite work out.
