'Peaky Blinders' made a very clever, hidden Jamie Vardy reference this week
Fair play, this is excellent
We’ve seen plenty of inventive easter eggs in some of the most popular shows around of late, giving fans a chance to feel like they’re smarter than their mates by spotting things the others didn’t.
Disney films have had a lot, for starters, while Jurassic World andGame of Thrones have also got in on the act.
Other shows like BoJack Horseman and The Good Place have become known for their subtle visual references, and now another show has joined the party: Peaky Blinders.
The crossover between football fans and Peaky Blinders fans is relatively high, we’d imagine, so the show included a very nice hidden gem for its viewers.
During one scene, odds for a number of horses at Cheltenham were on display, and eagle-eyed viewers spotted one horse name in particular.
That’s right, slap bang in the middle of the odds was the name ‘Vardy’s Party’, a reference to Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy… but that’s not the end of it.
Look a little closer. A little to the right… a little more… there you go, the odds.
‘Vardy’s Party’ is a 5,000/1 shot, the exact same odds Vardy and Leicester defied to win the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season.
Inevitably, someone asked for a mock-up of Vardy as a Peaky Blinders character, and inevitably the internet came through. He looks like a natural.
