Persol, the iconic Italian eyewear specialist, has had a long-standing relationship with Hollywood. Marcello Mastroianni wore his Persols in almost every scene of 1960’s La Dolce Vita and 1961 comedy Divorce Italian Style.
But, in 1968, Steve McQueen forged a life-long sponsored_longform on and off screen with the 714s, wearing them in The Thomas Crown Affair and The Getaway.
The frame has earned such a ‘beyond cool’ in-demand status, that an original pair of McQueen’s 714s recently fetched more than £40,000 at auction.
In tribute to his legacy, Persol has reintroduced the PO 714, complete with unique blue-tinted crystal lenses and a foldable acetate frame that is broken at the bridge and on both sides.
Finished with a McQueen signature, they are available at Sunglasses Hut from 15 November, but only 400 of the 10,000 limited-edition pairs will be on sale in the UK.
