Pierce Brosnan didn’t like new Bond film Spectre at all

The box office takings have put Goldfinger’s stash to shame, the favourable reviews have finally helped everyone pretend Quantum of Solace didn’t happen, but it now turns out one former 007 is far from a fan of Spectre.

Yep, Pierce Bronson - star of four Bond films, now equalled by Daniel Craig - has just given a damming verdict of his predecessor’s latest outing, telling HitFix:

“I was looking forward to it enormously. I thought it was too long. The story was kind of weak - it could have been condensed. It kind of went on too long. It really did.”

Considering that this is the same former Bond who once windsurfed his way around an iceberg-strewn tsunami tidal wave, and who quipped to Bond girl Dr Christmas Jones that he thought “Christmas only comes once a year”, perhaps it’s just a conflict of eras.

In contrast to Brosnan's day (how can we forget that invisible car) Craig’s deeply embittered, bruised 'blunt instrument' has earned his 00 status in a somewhat no-frills manner, turning him into a relevant 21st century hero and essentially doing for Bond what Christian Bale did for Batman, these two franchises heavily abetted by darker themes and contemporary fears.

Which might be why Brosnan also added that he thought Spectre was "neither fish nor fowl. It's neither Bond nor Bourne. Am I in a Bond movie? Not in a Bond movie?"

Though, he did admit he liked the previous Craig outings and backed him for another film:
 
“Daniel, in the fourth go-round, has ownership of it. He had a nice looseness to him. He's a mighty warrior, and I think he found a great sense of himself in this one with the one-liners and a nice playfulness there. Just get a tighter story, and he'll have another classic.”

Still, we can't say we're not miffed with his panning of Spectre.

Come, come, Mr Brosnan, you disappoint us. You get as much fulfilment out of watching Daniel Craig killing nameless henchmen in Spectre as we do, so why don't you admit it?
