You know what you’re getting with Plymouth gin. A heritage brand, Plymouth has made top quality gin for over a hundred years – so it’s trustworthy to say the least.
But old doesn’t have to mean old-fashioned, and Plymouth has just announced that it will release a new gin – its first in twelve years. Mr King’s 1842 combines just two flavouring ingredients, orris root and handpicked juniper.
Both of the ingredients were harvested on the same day – meaning that there are only 2,000 bottles of the gin produced.
As for its name, the gin was distilled using the same process used in 1842 – with some technological updates, of course.
The company says the gin has a “creamy texture, delicately balanced with floral notes of orris root, offering hints of lavender and pine, for a long and complex finish.”
Plymouth master distiller Sean Harrison describes it as a “truly one-off craft gin that we will never be able to recreate again”.
“Even if we were to visit the same Italian hillside next year, the climate and harvest conditions would affect the juniper resulting in a different taste profile,” he said.
“At a time when other brands are using many different botanicals throughout the distillation process, Mr King’s 1842 Recipe focuses on just two and the result is something very special. It’s an honour to bring Mr King’s gin into the 21st Century.”
