The Zidane Pirouette. The Cruyff Turn. The Higuita Scorpion Kick. The Heskey Fluff.
Forget cold, hard statistics and eBay-tempting medals, truly great footballers are better remembered for the skills they performed on the pitch, those magical match-winning moments which left jaws as agape as the goalposts being aimed at.
One man fully aware of this is Manchester-based graphic designer Rick Hincks, whose new series of prints capture English football’s most notable moments throughout the last few decades.
Some simple (Jerzy Dudek's wobbly-armed penalty heroics in Istanbul in 2005), some spectacular (Damien Dempsey’s audacious chip for Fulham vs Juventus), others just downright dramatic (Sergio Aguero’s last minute Premier League clincher against QPR), these simplified works contain a startling amount of footballing nostalgia.
Doing away with crowds, Jumbo-trons, Sky Sports Cameras and garishly bright football boots, these remarkable pieces of art are quite literally ageless.
