Proof that Quality Street have been subtly shrinking their tins for years
Shocking new chocolate scandal
Chocolate bars getting lighter, Freddos costing more than ten pence, multi-pack chocolates now offering four bars instead of five; there’s nothing like a good chocolate based scandal to get Brits concerned about inflation rates.
Now we have a new injustice, the shrinking size of Quality Street tins, stumbled upon by one Charlotte Stacey Hook from Washington, Tyne & Wear.
For years, Charlotte saved her sweet tins to keep her Christmas decorations and, noticing the steady decrease in their size over the years, took to Facebook with her starling discovery.
"Been putting the Christmas tree up, always keep my tins to put my decorations in after Christmas!” Charlotte wrote on a post on the Quality Street Facebook page. "Look how they’ve changed in size from 1998 till 2014!"
Since taking the photo the post has been liked over 80,000 times and has caused quite the stir among chocolate lovers on social media. So much so that Nestle have had to release a statement explaining the change in size over the years on their page.
“This image does not compare like for like. As well as the 780g tub pictured, we also have a 1.3kg tin available which lovers of Quality Street might like to try this Christmas. “We want to give the best possible value for money and we believe that this product is still extremely competitive.”
Still, they were sold as Quality Street, not Quantity Street, so what’s the issue? Right?
