Sony has revealed the PlayStation Plus games for May. These two titles are so different from one another, it’s possible this is the first time they’ve appeared in the same sentence: Overcooked and What Remains of Edith Finch.
While the latter has you painstakingly exploring Edith’s old family home and working through the grief of painful family tragedy, Overcooked has you making meals at the behest of a giant talking onion and his dog.
But they are both very, very good.

Let’s start with Overcooked. This is one of the best cooperative games ever made, and charges you and up to three friends with the task of making meals against the clock. If that sounds simple and maybe even relaxing, you’re in for a rude awakening.
Things inevitably fall apart in a flurry of moving scenery, food-stealing rats and kitchen fires. You’ll get under each others’ feet and fail in the funniest way imaginable. It’s brilliant, trust me. And if you don’t trust me, trust Metacritic where it’s averaging 78%.
What Remains of Edith Finch does even better by that metric, averaging a score of 88%. It’s an exploration-based game. You step into the shoes of Edith and discover how three generations died in tragic circumstances at her old family home. “It will touch the heart of all but the most soulless gamers,” The Guardian reckons, so there’s a good test of your character lined up there.
Both games will be available from May 7, which means you’ve still got a couple of days to grab last month’s games: The Surge and Conan Exiles. Oh, and you need a PlayStation Plus account to benefit from these freebies, obviously.
