Get ready to build some hurting bombs (and chase some chickens) - the latest trailer for the new Rocky spin-off is here.
To anyone with even a passing interest in sports films, the Rocky franchise stands as one of the greatest of all time (obviously we’re not counting Rocky V, we’re not sadists), and judging by this latest trailer, Creed could be heading for the top of it.
Starring Michael B Jordan (no, not that one – hence the ‘B’) as the son of Apollo Creed on the wrong side of the tracks and headed for a life in jail, Rocky decides to train him up himself, and it isn’t long before the pair are making sweet, sweet montages together.
Not just an underdog story, a paternal one, it seems the youngster isn’t just boxing shadows, he’s living in one. The chance to live up to the name Creed is a tough one, and he's got to tame a few demons before he can go out and prove himself against Scouse cruiserweight Tony Bellew (Ricky), as the Liverpudlian makes his first acting bow as a transatlantic trash talker who goes over to stir the pot.
Reteaming with Fruitvale Station’s Ryan Coogler, who should bring proceedings in line with grittier fare than most Rocky movies while hopefully retaining some shmaltz, Jordan clearly has a good team in his corner. Now it’s time to let his fists do the talking.
Ding ding.
