As satisfying as it will be for everyone taking part to finally reach the moment when they successfully cross the finish line, having run, swum and cycled as fast as their bodies will take them to that point. It’s an achievement to be proud of. But we also want to encourage you to take this triumph to people you know, and exchange your hours of training and aching muscles for their money.
That’s because this year, we’re encouraging money to be raised for CALM, a registered charity (Charity reg.no: England & Wales 1110621, Scotland SC044347) – working to prevent male suicide, which is the biggest killer of men aged 20-49 in England and Wales – so we felt it a pertinent choice and a worthy cause.
To gather your donations in the easiest way possible, we’d advise you to set up your own Justgiving page at www.justgiving.com/CALM. Here, you can add your highly attractive (unlikely) training photos, reasons for fundraising, assurance that anyone about to donate will be a significantly better person afterwards etc. Plus, if your donators are tax payers and tick the box to say so, Gift Aid will automatically be donated, bolstering their donation up by 25 per cent without any extra damage to their wallet.
The charity run a free, anonymous and confidential helpline and texting service every night, and offer tons of help and advice on their website in a bid to help prevent men turning to suicide.
For help or more information, call its Nationwide Helpline on 0800 58-58-58, London Helpline on 0808 802 58-58 or text CALM to 07537-404717.
