Recaptured drug lord El Chapo 'wanted to buy Chelsea'
Sean Penn must be a Spurs fan…
Not only did the actor's Rolling Stone interview with Mexican drug lord Joaquin El Chapo lead to the felon's re-capture, it might have just stopped Premier League champions Chelsea from getting a new buyer.
According to Diario Sport (via The Mirror), Mexican authorities found that the crime boss was “seriously” looking to buy the Stamford Bridge outfit, valued at £600m - around £100m less than the kingpin’s total net worth.
Diario Sport claims El Chapo, a known fan of Mexican side Puebla FC, was looking to the London club to “marry” his two loves: football and “entrepreneurship”. His plans were nixed due to two niggly issues: 1) Roman Abramovich indicating no desire to sell up, and 2) he being one of the world's most wanted men.
But how Chelsea could use him right now. Already a season to forget for the blues - in just a few months the club have sacked their most successful manager Jose Mourninho, found themselves in a relegation dogfight and had to put up with constant reports of dressing room unrest - who’s to say that under his ownership they couldn't have a complete squad clear-out. We also imagine shooting practice might be a bit more interesting.
Still, don't worry Chelsea fans. You already have a guy on the books who looks like a Latin American drug lord. His name's Diego Costa.
