We're a big fan of alternative book covers, so when we found out that Vintage had commissioned new designs for every novel by Haruki Murakami, we were very excited.
Fortunately, we have not been left disappointed, as these fantastic new designs for 15 of Murakami's titles are very cool indeed.
Noma's designs use circles as a main motif, with a limited palette of red, black and off-white. Look closely, and there is extensive and clever use of negative space, secondary images, and illusions.
Bar explains further in Creative Review: "as with Murakami’s writing, new meanings can be found in my illustrations on closer inspection and these discoveries reveal themselves in layers, like a puzzle."
The new versions will be released later this month - meanwhile you can take a look at the new covers below.
