‘Rick and Morty' fans get excited: there's a new crossover on the way
No fourth season yet, but this looks promising
We might be waiting a while (or forever?) for new episodes of Rick and Morty, but that doesn’t mean we’re missing out on other content related to the Adult Swim show.
The Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland creation is yet to be renewed for a fourth season, despite strong viewing figures, but its cultural cachet is as strong as ever.
We’ve seen Run the Jewels release a music video directed by one of the show’s mainstays and featuring clips from the animation, while the famous McDonald’s Szechuan sauce of the season three premiere has made a real-life return.
And now there’s another crossover on the way, relating to role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons - several years after Harmon centred an episode of his show Community on the game.
The Rick and Morty crossover is going to take the form of a four-issue comic, with Slashfilm reporting that writers Patrick Rothfuss and Jim Zub are teaming up with artist Troy Little on the project.
Little is best known for graphic novel Chiaroscuro, while Rothfuss has won awards for his Kingkiller Chronicle series and Zub has multiple Avengers comic credits to his name.
The series is due to be released in August, and Rothfuss’ long-held affection for Rick and Morty will reassure plenty of fans of the show.
Little, who was also the artist behind a 2015 adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, expressed his excitement for the project in an interview with CBC.
“You throw the manic insanity of Rick and Morty into the Dungeons and Dragons world with these talented guys at the helm, and I get to play in their world. This is going to be great,” he said.
Rick and Morty as a show might not be returning until 2019 at the earliest, according to Harmon, but the titular characters will remain on the landscape in the meantime.
Of course, if you’re desperate to find some more TV shows to watch while killing time before its (as-yet-unconfirmed) return, we’ve got you covered.
