Anyone who didn't spend January, and probably February, living in solitary confinement, will remember that Ricky Gervais spent a short time being the most hated man in Hollywood.
The acerbic comedian managed to offend half of Tinseltown with his controversial routine as he presented The Golden Globes in January.
In a rather surprising move, he's just been confirmed as the host of next year's ceremony. Last night, he posted a clip of his opening monologue on Twitter and promised "This x 10". The organiser, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, released the following, not entirely supportive, statement:
"After weeks of rumours, it's finally official - Ricky Gervais will be back to host the Golden Globes for a third year.
"While many welcome Gervais' return, not everyone is happy with the decision because last year his blunt one-liners targeting big-name celebrities caused anger and resentment in some quarters."
