Deadpool 2is just around the corner, and to say that we’re excited is an understatement - a statement, that is under - that’s what we’re dealing with here. And before we’ve even seen the second installment, it would be remiss of us not to admit that we’re already excited about a third movie.
Only thing is, that might not be happening, according to Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds. He spoke to Entertainment Weekly, saying:
“I don’t know that there would be a Deadpool 3. I really don’t.
“I feel like the character, in order for him to function properly within his own universe, you need to take everything away from him. I don’t think that you can keep doing that.
“I do see him as being a part of X-Force, obviously, I would love to see him in a team-up sort of thing, like a mano a mano or a great female character from the X-Men universe.
“I just think if you’re going to do another Deadpool solo film, you’ve got to really, like, get that budget down to nothing and just swing for the fences, and break all kinds of weird barriers, and do stuff that no one else can do.”
Thing is, Deadpool 3 was originally put into development about two years ago. Obviously, things have changed since, but when Deadpool 2 inevitably smashes a big hole in the box office with its big R-rated fist, you know they’re going to make another one. They only cease making these things when they start to lose money (and even then, sometimes it doesn’t stop ‘em) - so even if he appears in an X-Force movie next, it’ll essentially be Deadpool 3: X-Force.
Also, consider that 20th Century Fox (Deadpool’s studio) is currently in the midst of being bought by Disney, who also own Marvel. Disney’s chaiman Bob Iger has already announced plans to integrate Fox properties like the X-Men into the MCU, and Deadpool is certainly on the list.
DO NOT WORRY, FART-JOKE SUPERHERO FANS, THIS IS NOT THE LAST WE SHALL SEE OF HIM.
