The battle lines have been drawn (with a stylus, naturally): Samsung has revealed the phones it hopes will outshine every other pocket-dwelling device released this year - and they're going to take some beating.
In the crowded halls of Berlin's IFA trade show, the world's tech giants (with the notable exception of Apple, who'll be hosting their own bash on 9 September) have shown off the latest smart, touch and HD gadgets that will be looking to empty your wallet in the coming months.
Two of the most impressive Android offerings have come from Samsung's stable: the Galaxy Note 4 - a 5.7 inch 'phablet' - and the Galaxy Note Edge - a curved-screen mobile from the future.
With Apple's much-rumoured iPhone 6 purported to be nudging its way toward a 5.5 inch screen, the Galaxy Note 4 will likely be Samsung's main Apple-eater. Besides its vast HD screen (with more pixels than you could possibly need), it wields an unlikely 16 megapixel camera, a battery equipped with fast charging and 'Ultra' power saving modes and an S Pen - a stylus that can draw, manipulate and tinker around with your apps.
The Galaxy Note Edge is a slightly different beast: the right-hand edge of the 5.6 inch screen dives around to meet the rear of the phone. Rather than just looking elegant, the curve is designed to show app notifications and alerts to users without them having to dig it out of their bag or open its case. It will also display notifications without taking out vital inches of your screen.
Expect both handsets to arrive in Samsung and phone stores in the near future. Your move, Apple.
