Scientists have invented a chocolate so healthy that it could be taken as medicine
In news that will be music to the ears of anyone in an office anywhere, self-medicating with chocolate could send you laughing all the way to your doctor.
Your 3pm pick-me-up could act as a medicine, if scientists from an American chocolate company Kuka Xoco are to be believed.
Lead researcher Gregory Aharonian claims they have found that using micrograms of coca plant extract (a herb from Peru and Bolivia) can de-bitter unsweetened cacao, eliminating the need for sugar and sweeteners and all the bad fats in chocolate.
Taking out the stuff that currently makes chocolate so good it’s bad for you would unleash the health benefits of cacao, which has been found to protect your nervous system and lower blood pressure, improving your heart health.
The company’s long term goal is to create a chocolate with only 10% of fat and sugar, which could lead to double the profits for the chocolate industry and help it to become a health food industry.
Admittedly, Kuka Xoco are probably slightly biased. But it would be a pretty sweet deal.
