Cult classic 'What We Do in the Shadows' is getting a sequel - and the idea for it is A+
It won't be out for a while, though
Dunno if you’ve seen it, but What We Do in the Shadows is excellent. It’s a pre-tay darn hilarious mockumentary about vampires from current director du jour, Taika Waititi and starring everyone’s favourite big-headed funnyman, Jemaine Clement. Here’s the trailer, for a quick primer, in case you’re unaware:
Funny, no? Yes.
Anyway, straight from his huge success directing Thor: Ragnoraokroroak, Waititi is already straight back into business creative mode, and planning his next flick. And thankfully, it’s a very-welcome return to the lo-fi, character-based comedy of his previous work (Flight of the Conchords, Eagle vs Shark).
If you’ve seen What We Do in the Shadows, you’ll recall a very funny scene in which the vampires encounter a gang of werewolves - this one:
Well, the sequel is gonna focus on those guys, hence the title We’re Wolves - a nifty little pun I think you’ll agree. Taika spoke to BUILD about the film, which he’ll co-write with Clement:
“The movie is called We’re Wolves. We are wolves. We’re wolves. It’s a wordplay. Geddit?
“You’re not going to see it for seven years. We’re notoriously terrible at writing together, Jemaine and I.
“It usually takes place over emails, so we’ll email each other one line of dialogue, once a month… What We Do in the Shadows took six years to write.”
So good news and bad news there - we’re getting a sequel to a great film, but we’re going to have to wait ages to get it. Still, better than nothing, eh?
