It’s become an iconic modern British drama and it propelled Benedict Cumberbatch into international superstardom – and the writers of Sherlock have now given an important update on when everyone’s favourite detective is coming back to TV.
Speaking to the Radio Times in a joint interview with fellow writer and co-creator Mark Gatiss, Stephen Moffat said: “Nobody has ever closed the door on Sherlock. We haven’t got an immediate plan, but I would remain surprised, given the collective enthusiasm we have for it, if we didn’t do it again.”
He added: “I think maybe the time for a longer gap is upon us… I could see us making more Sherlocks. I could see us making Sherlocks way in the future.”
So, it seems that more episodes are definitely on the cards, but we could be in for a long old wait until we’re back in the swing of things at 221B Baker Street.
The next season, whenever it comes on, will be the fifth instalment in the BBC show and, thankfully, Cumberbatch has already signed on to reprise his award-winning role.
And this comes as it was announced Sherlock is getting a female-led reboot from Hulu Japan and HBO Asia called Miss Sherlock. The lead role will be played by actress Yuko Takeuchi while Dr Watson / Dr Wato Tachibana is going to be played by Shihori Kanjiya.
Here’s the trailer for the cool spin-off, which will be airing in April:
But for fans who just can’t see the show without Cumberbatch, here’s some of the best moments from the BBC show:
1. Sherlock and John’s First Meeting (’A Study In Pink’)
2. Sherlock Saves Mrs Hudson (’A Scandal in Belgravia’)
3. Sherlock Meets the Naked Irene Adler (’A Scandal in Belgravia’)
