After a rocky start, it seems like Shia LeBeouf’s latest gritty star vehicle, a meditation on PTSD in servicemen returning from Afghanistan, is going great guns at the UK box office.
Man Down has seen its profits surge by 300% in midweek sales following a slow opening weekend, a rare uptick that will surely give its producers cause to smile.
In all, the film, which also stars Kate Mara, Gary Oldman, Jai Courtney and Jose Pablo Cantillo, has now taken £21, according to the Hollywood Reporter, after a taking just £7 between Friday and Monday.
Man Down was only released in one British cinema, showing once a day as a way to attract reviews for a concurrent release on various online platforms.
"I think we've sold three tickets in total," revealed the manager of Burnley’s Reel Cinema, who said she hadn't "experienced anything like it before".
She said the film would end its week-long run today, and that it was more than likely that £21 would be where its profit surge would end. It earned around $454,490 in a slightly less limited theatrical run in the States at the end of last year, and was made on a budget of $560,000.
