First pics of Nick Fury in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ could reveal crucial plot details
The pictures hint at a previously rumoured plot line
There are a lot of Spider-Man spin-offs in development right now – and we mean a lot.
Venom has been released, and has a couple of end-credits scenes pointing the way towards different films, while we’ve got some more spidey action to look forward to in 2019 and beyond.
One of the 2019 releases (that’s the year, not the number – there aren’t quite that many) is Spider-Man: Far From Home, and we’re getting some images of the cast drip-fed to us to build excitement.
And, as is often the case, fans are reading a lot into the images and trying to figure out what they mean for the plot of the film.
We already know a bit about the cast of Far From Home – Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jake Gyllenhaal and Cobie Smulders are all attached, with Tom Holland reprising his role as the eponymous hero.
Also on board is Michael Keaton, who played Batman in two films and takes the role of Vulture in the MCU, while Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury will return after appearances in a number of other Marvel films, most recently Avengers: Infinity War.
We’ve been treated to the first images of Jackson’s character, and it has led to some speculation about whether the on-set pictures might give us some clues to the plot of the upcoming film.
As Nerdist reports, there has been speculation about Spider-Man: Far From Home drawing on the Secret War comics, with Nick Fury recruiting Spider-Man and others for a secret mission.
The idea of secrecy is in line with the darkened images of Fury and Spider-Man, with Nerdist’s Jessica Chobot speculating that a black Spider-Man suit – visible in other leaked footage – could potentially be a stealth suit made with this secret mission in mind.
We’re bound to see more footage before the planned 5 July release, and anything else that emerges should give us a better idea of whether this early theory has (spidery) legs.
