'Star Wars' release the first cast photo from the upcoming Han Solo spin-off
You can't have too much Chewie
It’s taken a bit of time to get used to the fact that, after years of nothingness and Jar Jar Binks nightmares, we are quite possibly going to be getting a new movie set in the Star Wars universe every year for the rest of time, but that’s how it is. Embrace it like you would the Force.
One of the more intriguing projects is the as-yet untitled Han Solo prequel, and now fans have their first glimpse at the cast.
The official Star Wars Twitter account confirmed that production is officially underway by tweeting out a photo, which shows Alden Ehrenreich as the young Millennium Falcon pilot (brown leather jacket, in case you haven’t quite woken up yet), surrounded by co-stars Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emilia Clarke and Donald Glover.
Directing duo Chris Miller and Phil Lord (The LEGO Movie, 21 Jump Street) will helm the spin-off, and both also appear in the photo.
And then there’s Chewbacca. Joonas Suotamo was a body double for Peter Mayhew in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it was recently announced that the 6’10” Finnish basketball player-turned-actor would step into the world-famous wookie suit on a full-time basis for this movie. No pressure mate.
Absent from the cast shot is Westworld star Thandie Newton, but she will play a role in the film.
The Han Solo movie (which we kind of hope is the title they go with) is scheduled to hit screens in May 2018.
