Starbucks to introduce customer-influenced playlists with Spotify
Good news - Nora Jones isn't going to be able to spoil your skinny hazelnut macchiato for much longer.
Arriving at the end of 2015, Starbucks employees and customers will be able to choose in-store playlists thanks to a new sponsored_longform with music streaming giants Spotify.
Set to roll out across 7,000 Starbucks stores in the US before arriving in the UK, the scheme will see Starbucks employees given a Spotify Premium subscription (lucky things) and access to in-store playlist building tools. The playlists they create will then be available for coffee-loving punters to access on Spotify via the Starbucks Mobile App - in turn, allowing users to build up "Stars as currency" rewards with the My Starbucks Rewards (MSR) system. So, reduced coffee could be yours simply by listening to certain tracks.
Starbucks MSR members will also be able "influence" in-store playlists - though further details on how the system will work is yet to be revealed. We can't imagine that users will be able to skip tracks on a whim, but rather that the most popular tracks accessed through the MSR system could rise to the top of in-store playlists.
On second thoughts, this could see all coffee shops filled with wall-to-wall One Direction tracks (although that's not necessarily a bad thing).
Anything for a discounted coffee, right?
