Stephen Hawking thinks black holes could lead to another dimension

We loved Interstellar. Majestic, enthralling, complicated... really complicated. Actually, we're not sure we entirely understood what was going on in the last half hour of Christopher Nolan's space romp - but gosh it was pretty, wasn't it? Lovely space stuff.

If you shared our confusion over the notion of parallel dimensions and time travel, chances are you're going to glaze over in similar fashion as you attempt to negotiate Professor Stephen Hawking's latest comments about black holes - because he also thinks that black holes could lead to parallel dimensions.

"If you feel you are in a black hole, don’t give up, there’s a way out," Hawking told the audience of the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. 

If you didn't follow the above video, in essence, Hawking believes that you aren't trapped or destroyed by a black hole, but rather you're converted into 'information', which can pass through an event horizon (the ring around the edge of a black hole. Google it). 

"I propose that the information is stored not in the interior of the black hole, as one might expect, but on its boundary: the event horizon," said Hawking. "The message of this lecture is that black holes ain't as black as they are painted. They are not the eternal prisons they were once thought. Things can get out of a black hole both on the outside and possibly come out in another universe."

That's theoretical physics for you. Theoretical. We haven't got a clue what he's talking about either, but it sounds pretty exciting, right?
