Stephen King's Mr Mercedes set for film adaptation
You know you're onto a winner when a book you haven't even published is snapped up for a film deal. Such is the life of Stephen King, whose upcoming detective thriller Mr Mercedes is set for a big screen adaptation.
Word comes from The Tracking Board that the rights to Mr Mercedes have been snatched by Temple Hill and Media Rights Capital.
The novel - which arrives on shelves on 3 June - follows the story of Bill Hodges, a retired cop who's haunted by 'the case that got away' - a driver who ploughed his Mercedes into a line of job seekers, kill eight and wounding 15. When Brady Hartfield identifies himself as the killer and issues a threat the he's looking to repeat his crime, Hodges is begrudgingly dragged out of retirement.
Jack Bender is set to direct, having previously handled the TV adaptation of King's Under the Dome. Producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are also no stranger to successful novel adaptations, having worked on I, Robot and the phenomenally successful Twilight series. Further details are yet to emerge on filming schedules or who'll be handling the script.
