Steven Gerrard reportedly set for Liverpool return
Jürgen Klopp isn't messing around, is he?
According to The Independent, the charismatic German has already spoken to former Reds skipper Steven Gerrard on the phone several times since arriving on Merseyside last month, and has even managed to convince the now-LA Galaxy man to return to his hometown team in some capacity - possibly in a playing role.
It is understood Klopp has mooted Gerrard train with his former teammates until 15 January when he’ll be due back with ‘the Galaxy’ for pre-season, believing his presence will help set the standards of professionalism he wants around the club. If reports are to be believed, he also wants to set up a formal playing agreement.
Trouble is, Galaxy have already stated loaning Gerrard out to a European giant isn’t an option (probably something to do with Beckham’s elongated stints in Milan, and Lampard’s delayed start with New York City FC due to Man City commitments), which would suggest the 35-year-old may wait out in Hollywood with an extra year on his contract.
Abetted by a great understanding on the field with striker Robbie Keane, Gerrard has been an instant hit in the MLS, scoring at will and bagging a few assists. Hence why Galaxy manager Bruce Arena recently sat down to Gerrard to have talks on a new deal and the future of his role at the club, prompting the likely move that an extension deal might be offered.
But by all accounts, Stevie G just knows the MLS doesn't compare to the Premier League.
Hate to say we told you so (we don't).
